Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) contributes to MultiRoofs through FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute, a joint initiative of ULB and VUB bringing together expertise in artificial intelligence, data, and robotics. Through FARI, ULB combines advanced research capabilities with extensive experience working alongside public authorities in Brussels and across Europe. Its expertise also covers the ethical, societal and legal dimensions of digital technologies, helping ensure that innovative solutions can be effectively applied in a public-sector context.

Within MultiRoofs, ULB leads the development of the joint training scheme, helping public authorities build the knowledge and skills needed to use data and digital tools for the planning and implementation of multifunctional rooftops. This work builds on strong experience in public-sector capacity building, including the training of around 1,000 public administration officials in AI in 2024. ULB also contributes to the development of the MultiRoofs Digital Twin, working alongside TU Delft, Dublin City University and OASC. Through its Machine Learning Group, the university brings expertise in AI, machine learning and Digital Twin technologies, as well as experience working with public data providers and developing data-driven solutions for the Brussels-Capital Region. Together, these contributions help turn MultiRoofs’ technical innovations into practical knowledge and tools that public authorities can understand, adopt and replicate.
