As part of the MONA Project, the train has been identified as the perfect way to explore the Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park, especially when combined with hiking. The regional park is currently developing this initiative in collaboration with local partners to encourage visitors to choose more sustainable modes of transport.
The tourism assessment conducted by students during an on-site study of train stations in the Montagne de Reims region highlighted the diversity and quality of walking routes connecting the four stations, which are directly linked by the “La Ligne des Bulles” train line via the gateway cities of Reims and Épernay. There are a number of short- and long-distance hiking trails between the municipalities in question.

However, one area for improvement was identified: the lack of visibility of the walking route network and the need to improve signage for pedestrians at intersections along these routes. This is why the park has decided to develop a master plan for installing directional signage for pedestrians.
The hiking trail signage plan
The Grand Est Hiking Federation collaborated on the development of this project as part of a public procurement contract.
Several site visits and meetings were held to develop the desired signage plan. The plan specifies the signage to be installed at the intersections of various hiking trails and the information to be displayed on these signs.

The equipment described in this signage plan will be manufactured and installed in early 2027.
As with the trails, these signs will now also provide information on the proximity of train stations, to facilitate access to the area by train for hikers.

A tool to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders
The Marne Department and the Marne Departmental Hiking Committee are responsible for maintaining signage on hiking trails. The aim of this project is to encourage local municipalities to understand and monitor this network of trails.
A meeting organised by Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park on 1 July with the relevant municipalities provided an opportunity to present the project and discuss the various parties' commitments and involvement.
The discussions were constructive, indicating effective collaboration in carrying out the project and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
